Dental Impressions

The first step in our involvement with most cases is to receive a dental impression from your dentist. This is produced by creating a three dimensional image of your teeth by having you bite into an 'impression material' on a small tray that is carefully placed in your mouth by your dentist. Think of it as being like a trip to the beach - the impression material is typically silicon based (derivative of sand) or an alginate (derivative of seaweed). They are both tasteless and quick-setting, allowing you to complete the procedure swiftly and comfortably. All impressions we receive from clients are subject to our strict hygiene control regime before they enter our laboratory processes eliminating any risk of cross infection.

We take the disinfected impression and use it as the mould to 'pour-up' a model. We use a dental stone or plaster that leaves us with an exact replica of your teeth. This is a permanent model and includes all the preparation work that your dental surgeon may have completed. This model allows us to create the dental solution prescribed without wasting your time in the dentist's chair.  An experienced dental technician then creates a likeness of a natural tooth or a number of teeth, and the completed product is returned to your dentist for cementing. For more detail on the manufacturing process, click on 'Casting of Metal'.
